Candidates should have lived experience, or be researching and contributing to improving health equity, mental health, and reducing burnout. At this time scholarships are awarded to individuals.
Applicants write an essay sharing their story, experience with physician burnout and suicide, and what needs to come next. Scholarship criteria includes financial need, professionalism, personal dedication to physician well-being, quality of plan for improvement, professionalism and knowledge of physician suicide and burnout.
“There’s clearly a much more significant issue at a systemic level within the way physicians are trained and the expectations that are placed on them. We need to develop systems for practicing physicians and residency programs that can help curtail this beyond online surveys and things of nature.”
— Chad Richards, 2019 Sharp Index Scholarship Recipient
